CHARDONNAY AND SHIRAZ STAND OUT AT ADELAIDE HILLS WINE SHOW

Shiraz has performed strongly at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show with 29 medals awarded from 52 entries, including five gold medals.

Judges commented best examples, including gold medal trophy winner Honeymoon Vineyard 2007 Adelaide Hills Shiraz, “retained a savoury dimension and elegance appropriate to high quality cool-climate Shiraz.”

Chardonnay also had a strong showing with 40 out of 67 wine receiving medals, including five gold. Penfolds 2007 Reserve Bin A Chardonnay won best wine of show, and judges commented that the “Adelaide Hills and Chardonnay is a dynamic combination”.

International judge Anthony Rose says alternative varieties in the Adelaide Hills were incredibly good and have an exciting future.

“The youth of the region, combined with the very wide variations in terroir throughout its 70-kilometre length mean the possibilities for what the Adelaide Hills might achieve had only just begun to be explored,” he said.

"Some reds, The first a lovely bright young thing, like a freckled blossom on Bondi, all morello cherries, prunes, English fudge and raspberry, came from Jane Bromley and Hylton McLean at their Honeymoon Vineyard at Echunga 2007 vintage Pinot Noir. This is a winery to watch. Order at 0419 862 103."
