Dear customers and friends, and new visitors to this site,
Thank you for visiting the Honey Moon Vineyard website.
At the time of writing this message I have just come in from the vineyard. Flowering has not long finished and the vines are looking so vibrant and happy. I feel very thankful for the winter rains – much more plentiful this year and very welcome. It feels like the land has been truly refreshed and revived. Spring has been so changeable, as to be expected, but in a much more dramatic way this year – with extremely hot days and drying winds one minute, then a cold snap and more rain the next – but this did not bother the vines one iota.
I have some good news to share. Our 2007 Shiraz won another Gold medal at the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Show this year (following on from the Gold won in 2008), plus the Trophy for best Shiraz!!. Also, our 2007 Pinot Noir won a Gold medal and came 2nd to the trophy winner in this class. Earlier in November our 2007, Shiraz was also judged as the top Adelaide Hills Shiraz in the Adelaide Review Hot 100 Wines for 2010. We are so delighted that the wines we made from our small, much loved, vineyard could stand out among many very good wines, and catch the eye/palate/imagination of the judges of these awards. Coupled with the overwhelmingly positive response we have received from our friends and customers, it has been a very heartening year.
Regarding wines for the future, our 2009 reds are developing well in barrel, as is the vintaged/fortified Shiraz (use of the term “port” is no longer permissible). The base wine for our rosé-style sparkling is about to enter the next stage – fermentation in bottle – after which it will have quite a stay in cool cellars, slowly developing. We have just bottled our 2008 reds and feel very pleased with the outcome. However, we plan to cellar them for possibly 12 months before release, to allow time for some further maturation. We are fortunate in having the use of excellent, temperature-controlled cellars, so we can let time do its magic with confidence.
Finally, I would like to officially welcome on board my partner, Hylton McLean, who now is fully involved in Honey Moon Vineyard. Hylton has over 20 years experience in the wine industry as a former university lecturer in oenology and as a senior winemaker for a global wine company. It is truly wonderful to have his great energy, knowledge, expertise, experience and humour.
Plus we welcome a new helper who has 4 legs, an assistant vineyard kelpie for Kish – young Beau.
Please do contact Hylton or Jane if you have any queries at all about Honey Moon Vineyard wines. We would love to hear from you.
Best wishes for the Festive Season.
Jane Bromley
